Manohar Joshi, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, breathed his last on February 23 at the age of 86. He was admitted to PD Hinduja Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on February 21. This unfortunate event follows his hospitalization last year for a brain haemorrhage.

The funeral is scheduled at Dadar Shivaji Park Crematorium with full state honors, as confirmed by family sources. Joshi’s political career spanned from 1995 to 2012, holding key positions such as Chief Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, and Rajya Sabha Member. Despite health challenges, he remained active in politics.

His son Unmesh mentioned that Joshi had been in the ICU under observation due to cardiac trouble. The family plans to perform the last rites at the Shivaji Park crematorium, with the mortal remains to be brought to their house in Matunga.

The hospital’s statement indicated that Joshi was in the ICU, receiving close observation and optimal medical care for the severe cardiac event he experienced. The loss was deeply felt in political circles, with leaders expressing their condolences and acknowledging Joshi’s contributions.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised Joshi’s immense contributions to society, politics, and education, highlighting his rise from a corporator to Chief Minister.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar emphasized Joshi’s role as a leader advocating for the rights of Marathi people, recognizing the significant loss to Maharashtra’s political, social, and education sectors.
