The Russo family stages a grand comeback as Selena Gomez reunites with her Wizards of Waverly Place co-stars. David Henrie and David DeLuise, who embodied the roles of Alex Russo’s brother Justin and dad Jerry, posted a snapshot alongside the actress and fellow cast member Maria Canals Barrera, the on-screen mom Theresa.
DeLuise, in an Instagram post on Jan. 26, captioned the reunion photo with a nod to the Wizards of Waverly Pod podcast, a project he cohosts with Jennifer Stone. Stone, who played Alex’s BFF Harper Finkle, transitioned to a registered nurse in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
This heartwarming reunion picture, shared a week after the confirmation of the series’ sequel, showcases the commitment of Gomez and Henrie, now both 34, who will also serve as executive producers. Henrie is set to reprise his role as Justin in the regular cast, while Gomez will make a guest appearance as Alex in the pilot episode.
The untitled spinoff follows Justin’s endeavor to lead a normal, non-magical life with his wife (Mimi Gianopulos) and their two sons (Alkaio Thiele and Max Matenko). Janice LeAnn Brown from Euphoria takes the lead as Billie, a young wizard seeking guidance from Justin.
In a January 25 Instagram post, Henrie shared a snapshot of himself and Gomez with the new additions to the franchise, hinting at the growth and evolution of the Russo family.
