Former Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo found himself in legal trouble over the weekend in Indiana, facing charges that include possession of a firearm and marijuana.

Rondo, a key player for nine seasons of his 16-year NBA career with the Boston Celtics, was arrested on Sunday afternoon during a traffic stop on Interstate 65 in Jackson County, Indiana. The Indiana State Police reported that the trooper detected the odor of marijuana emanating from Rondo’s car, leading to the search where a firearm, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were discovered.

It’s noteworthy that Rondo is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to an existing protection order against him. All charges against the 37-year-old are classified as misdemeanors.

Following the arrest, Rondo was booked in Jackson County Jail but later released after posting bond. This incident adds to a series of legal encounters for the two-time NBA champion.

In 2022, a Louisville woman sought an emergency protective order against Rondo, alleging threats to her life. The order was dismissed a year later following Rondo’s completion of anger management classes, counseling, and a mental health evaluation.

The same woman initiated another emergency protective order against Rondo in March of the following year, culminating in an agreed order after five months. During the recent arrest, a child accompanying Rondo was released into the custody of a family member.

Despite the legal challenges, Rajon Rondo boasts an impressive basketball career, contributing significantly to the Celtics’ NBA title in 2008 and securing a second championship ring with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

The four-time All-Star, primarily associated with Boston, also played for various teams, concluding his NBA journey with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2021-22 season.
