In a legal showdown between Kelly Clarkson and her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, a substantial ruling has landed in Clarkson’s favor, affirming that Blackstock owes her a whopping $2.6 million in commissions.
This financial tussle arose from Blackstock’s involvement in steering business deals while managing Clarkson, actions that breached California’s Talent Agencies Act, as ruled by the Labor Commissioner.

The heart of the matter lies in Blackstock’s role in securing several high-profile deals for Clarkson, including her coveted position as a judge on The Voice, a promotion for Norweigan Cruise Lines, an agreement with Wayfair, and hosting duties for the Billboard Music Awards.
The Commissioner concluded that these deals should have been orchestrated by Clarkson’s licensed talent agents at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), not Blackstock acting in an unofficial capacity.
However, the ruling drew a line, dismissing Clarkson’s assertion that Blackstock should also reimburse commissions from his involvement in securing The Kelly Clarkson Show. The Commissioner justified this by pointing out that Blackstock’s actions were in sync with the expectations outlined in the Talent Agencies Act, aligning his involvement with the demands and permissions of CAA.
This legal saga comes amidst the aftermath of Kelly Clarkson‘s divorce filing from Blackstock back in 2020, culminating in a finalized settlement two years later. The settlement terms encompassed monthly child support of $45,601 for their two children and a significant one-time payment of just over $1.3 million.
