Sheynnis Palacios, a beacon of grace from Nicaragua, claimed the coveted title of 2023’s Miss Universe in a dazzling display of talent and poise at the annual beauty pageant held in the heart of El Salvador’s capital, San Salvador. Alongside her, Anntonia Porsild from Thailand graced the event as the first runner-up.

Representatives from 84 nations vied for the title, impressing a panel of judges that included luminaries like model Halima Aden, the charismatic Carson Kressley from “Queer Eye,” TikTok sensation Avani Gregg, and the esteemed former Miss Universe winners Janelle Commissiong of Trinidad & Tobago (Miss Universe 1977) and Iris Mittenaere of France (Miss Universe 2016).

The evening commenced with the announcement of twenty semi-finalists, chosen after the preliminary competition’s results and a worldwide fan vote. Following the swimsuit round, the field narrowed down to 10, bidding farewell to Miss Nepal, the first “curvy” contestant to reach the semi-finals, and Miss Pakistan, who bravely chose a burkini as her swimsuit attire. The evening gown round halved the number of contenders once more.

Subsequent rounds of thought-provoking Q&A sessions left three exceptional women in contention: Palacios, Porsild, and the second runner-up, Moraya Wilson from Australia.
