World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated every year since 1994. This day acknowledges the anniversary of the adoption of 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the status of teachers, it sets benchmarks regarding their rights and responsibilities and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, teaching and learning.

Bold actions must be taken, if we are to reverse the current decline and successfully increase teacher numbers.”
