The state-level committee will investigate the reasons behind the prolonged delay, as the project initiated a decade ago is yet to see the development of sports facilities.
The Public Accounts Committee of the Uttar Pradesh government, investigating the delay in the ‘Sports City’ project, has directed the formation of a state-level panel to address the issue. This project, designed to provide integrated sports facilities in group housing projects in sectors 79, 150, and 151, has faced significant delays, leaving around 30,000 investors without possession of their flats.
The state-level committee will investigate the reasons behind the prolonged delay, as the project initiated a decade ago is yet to see the development of sports facilities. This move follows a previous investigation by the Noida authority and concerns raised by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India regarding irregularities in the Sports City scheme.
Developers, including Lotus Greens, Logix Group, and ATS Infrastructure, were allotted land between 2011-2014 to create world-class sports facilities, but discrepancies in the development process have prompted official scrutiny.
The dispute between developers and farmers over adequate land for sports facilities remains a contentious issue, contributing to the project’s protracted timeline. The Noida authority had previously imposed restrictions on flat and plot transactions under the project, emphasizing the need for sports facilities’ development before housing units.
The sprawling 600-acre project comprises group housing, commercial towers, and integrated sports infrastructure, with approximately 10,000 of the proposed 30,000 housing units already sold by developers.
