Karan Johar’s past rift with Kartik Aaryan during the production of Dostana 2 is widely recognized. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Karan expressed his intention to collaborate with the actor in the future, despite their previous differences.
“We came close to working together on a project, but due to various reasons, it didn’t materialize. However, we never say never. I believe there’s something significant awaiting both of us in the future. While Dostana 2’s fate remains uncertain, another project will define our partnership,” Karan stated during the interview.
The discord between Karan and Kartik arose when the filmmaker initially signed Kartik as one of the leads for Dostana 2, the sequel to the 2008 hit romantic comedy Dostana.
Kartik was cast alongside Janhvi Kapoor and newcomer Lakshya, with the film directed by Collin D’Cunha. However, Kartik’s alleged behavior on set led to his removal from the project. Dharma Productions subsequently announced the shelving of the film and its plans for recasting and reshooting, without revealing the exact reasons behind this decision.
Karan and Kartik have since maintained a cordial relationship, occasionally meeting at film events and even attending the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne together. Karan praised Kartik’s contributions to Indian cinema and wished him continued success.
