The New York State Police shared the reassuring news on Monday, confirming the apprehension of a suspect. Governor Kathy Hochul, in a press conference, highlighted the ongoing nature of the investigation, emphasizing the need for continued scrutiny.
The pivotal moment in the case unfolded when a car pulled up to the Sena family’s home, depositing a ransom note around 4:20 a.m. Monday morning. State police, stationed at the residence while Sena’s parents were at the campsite, discovered the note, leading to a crucial fingerprint. The investigative trail eventually connected the suspect, a 47-year-old male, to a residence where he was taken into custody after some resistance.

Governor Hochul provided further details, explaining that Charlotte Sena was located hidden in a cabinet, her relief palpable as she knew she was being rescued and in safe hands. While the suspect is still undergoing questioning, charges are expected to be brought forth, according to the governor.

The prior days had seen an extensive search operation involving about 400 certified search-and-rescue personnel from various agencies, volunteer fire departments, and private search-and-rescue groups, utilizing drones, bloodhounds, and an airboat in the expansive 6,250-acre Moreau Lake State Park.

The closure of the park to the public and the issuance of a temporary flight restriction by the Federal Aviation Administration attested to the severity and urgency of the situation.
