Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2023 is celebrated on february 19 every year. He was born in 1630 at Shivneri Fort in Pune. In 1870, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule established Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. Maharashtra observes a public holiday on this day.

Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is celebrated on february 19 every year and this year it falls on sunday. He was the founder of the Maratha empire and one of the bravest kings that India have ever witnessed. His fights with the Mughals are well known.

His birth anniversary is celebrated as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. This year, India is celebrating 393rd birth anniversary of Shivaji. The residents of Maharashtra celebrate this day with full of fervour and enthusiasm.

Shivaji Maharaj was born in 1630 at Shivneri Fort in Pune. In 1870, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule established Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti. Jyotirao Phule discovered the Shivaji’s tomb in Raigad, almost 100 kilometres from Pune.

The first Shivaji Maharaj jayanti was celebrated in Pune. Later, the freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak popularised this day more by telling the brave stories of Shivaji Maharaj to the general public.

Shivaji Maharaj promoted the regional languages Marathi and Sanskrit in Court and administration as opposed to the Persian language, which was mostly used at that time.

Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is observed as a public holiday in Maharashtra. There are several films and TV shows on the life of Shivaji which depict the bravery and wisdom of Shivaji Maharaj. People of Maharashtra remember Shivaji on his birth anniversary and pay tribute to him.
