APJ Abdul Kalam death anniversary:- Today (July 27) is the 7th death anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He played a pivotal role in the development of our country. As an aerospace scientist, he worked in the two most recognised institutions of India – Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
He was born on October 15, 1931 to a modest family in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam joined DRDO in 1958 and inducted into the ISRO in 1969, where he worked as the project director for SLV- III, India’s first launch vehicle.
In 1982, he returned to DRDO where he earned the name “Missile Man of India”. He also played a crucial role in Nuclear weapon test in 1998.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam also served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. Due to his humility and high thinking, he came to be known as the “People’s President”. In 1990, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan while in 1997, he received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
Dr. Kalam also wrote several books including his autobiography “Wings of Fire” and “Ignited Minds”. He died on July 27, 2015 when he was delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong. He died due to cardiac arrest, aged 83.
