April 21 is celebrated as the National Civil Services day by the government of India. This day honours the civil servants of the country who serve the nation and the people. Civil servants keep their duty above all that’s why this day is dedicated to them.

National Civil Services day commemorates the day when the first Home Minister of the independent India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the newly formed Administrative Service Officers at the Metcalf House in New Delhi. Sardar Patel addressed those officers and referred them as the “steel frame of India.”

The first National Civil Services day was celebrated in 2006 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

National Civil Services Day is celebrated on April 21 every year to commemorate and honour the works of the civil servants of the country. It also reminds them that serving the nation should be their first and foremost priority.

On this day, the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration is presented to the civil servants for their contribution to the service of the nation and the people.

There are various departments of civil services where officers render their services and ensure smooth and proper work. They help in maintaining peace, law and order in the country.

Civil Services in our country comprises Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Revenue Service and other All India Services and Central Services Group A and B.
