Every year, January 26 is celebrated as Republic day in India. This year, India is celebrating its 73rd Republic Day. The meaning of ‘Republic’ is that country is sovereign state. President is the head of the state, who is elected by the country people indirectly.
Republic day is celebrated with much pomp and show all across the country especially in Rajpath, New Delhi. Every year on Republic day, President reaches at the Rajpath and hoists the flag there. Afterwards, a big ceremony takes place in which Indian armed forces, Indian Navy and Air force show cultural and social heritage. The annual parade takes place which begins from Rajpath, Delhi and ends at India gate. Besides politicians, people also gather at Rajpath to see the annual parade. Live telecast of the show is also made accessible to the people over the tv or mobile.
President distributes Padma awards to honour the deserving civilians who made contribution to the nation. Brave soldiers are awarded with Param Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra and Vir Chakra.
Republic Day 2022:- History
On January 26, 1950 the Constitution of India was adopted. India got independence from the British rule on August 15, 1947 and after some days of Independence, Constituent assembly was made, headed by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
On November 26, 1949 the Constitution was adopted by the Constituent assembly that’s why November 26 is celebrated as Constitution day in India. After two months, on January 26, 1950 Constitution of India finally came into force which replaced the Government of India Act, 1935.
Republic Day 2022:- Significance
Republic day marks the adoption of Constitution of India. Constitution starts with the Preamble which describes the Constitution in short. It also includes Fundamental rights and fundamental duties of the people. Republic day spreads awareness about the democracy and people’s voting rights. People of India have the power to choose the government democratically.
