Election Commission announces dates for assembly elections in Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The physical campaigning for the elections has been banned till January 15 due to the increasing Covid-19 across the country.

Election Commission announces dates for assembly elections in Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh, polls will be held in seven phases and in Manipur in two phases while in Goa, Uttarakhand and Punjab in single phase.
On the 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, polls will be held on February 10, February 14, February 20, February 23, February 27, March 3 and March 7.
In Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand, polls will be held on the same date, February 14. There are 117 assembly seats in Punjab, 40 in Goa and 70 in Uttarakhand.
While in Manipur, assembly polls will be held in two phases- February 27 and March 3. The date of counting the votes is March 10, 2022 for all the five states.
Addressing the media, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that polls will be held by following the proper Covid-19 guidelines. He said that dates of the polls have been announced after consulting with health officials and much deliberation.
The physical campaigning for the elections has been banned till January 15 due to the increasing Covid-19 across the country. The cycle or bike rallies, padyatras, vehicle rallies, roadshows and processions would be banned. CEC said that Election Commission will review the situation on January 15 and decision to allow physical campaigning or not will be taken after that.
The polling staff will be fully vaccinated and they are to be treated as frontline workers. So, booster dose will be given to them. Sushil Chandra said that there is no need to panic for voters, there would be proper safety measures in place at polling booths.
