The no. 1 tennis player Ashleigh Barty has won the Australian Open 2022 grandslam title. She becomes the first home Australian Open champion since 1978. Australians had been waiting for 44 years for this day.
In the Australian Open 2022 final, top seed Barty defeated American Danielle Collins in the straight sets 6-3 7-6 (2). She looked dominant throughout the game. There were huge audience shouting for Ashleigh Barty.
“I’ve said numerous times I’m so lucky tonight to have numerous people here that love and support me. I’m a fortunate and lucky girl to have so much love in my corner, we started together right from the start. We did it all together, nobody has changed from our team. I love you to death,” Barty said in her post-match interview.
After winning the game, Barty expressed her feelings by shouting aloud.
“It was a little bit surreal, I think, I didn’t quite know what to do or what to feel and I think just being able to let out a little bit of emotion which is a little bit unusual for me and I think being able to celebrate with everyone who was there in the crowd, the energy was incredible tonight,” Barty said in the interview.
And I think being able to understand how much work my team and I have been done behind the scenes. And over the last years to get to this point to be able to get this opportunity was very special. And I think it is just kind of all came out at once. And yeah, a really, really special moment,” she further said.
Ashleigh Barty won her first singles French Open title in 2019. She also won Wimbledon in 2021 and has now won her maiden Australian Open title. She has three titles to her name so far. Now, she only misses the US Open title.
