 India beat South Africa by 113 runs in the 1st test and leads the three-match test series 1-0. Vice Captain KL Rahul made 123 runs in the first innings and became the player of the match.

India beat South Africa by 113 runs in the 1st test of three-match test series and scripted history in Centurion. India’s pacers played significant role in this win and batter KL Rahul became Player of the match who scored 123 in 1st innings. Now, India leads the three-match test series 1-0.

India’s skipper Virat Kohli had won the toss and decided to bat. There was a shadow of clouds on the first test match despite it went in the lap of India. In the first innings, India had made 327 runs with the help of KL Rahul’s 123 runs and Mayank Agarwal’s 60 runs. South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi alone took 6 wickets in the first innings by giving 71 runs.

India’s batters made good score in the first innings and bowlers too showed their skills. On day 3, Jasprit Bumrah was off field for a few hours due to his ankle injury but Mohammed Shami didn’t let India miss him and he took 5 wickets by giving just 44 runs which restricted South Africa to 197. It gave a lead of 130 runs to India. From South Africa’s side, only Temba Bavuma (52 runs) could score well in the first innings.

In the second innings, India couldn’t score well but it had a good lead from its first innings. India made 174 runs in the second innings. South Africa’s bowlers did a great comeback. Kagiso Rabada took 4 wickets by giving 42 runs and Marco Jansen also took 4 wickets and gave 55 runs.

On the final day of first test, South Africa needed 211 runs and 6 wickets were in hand. India needed to take these 6 wickets of South Africa to win but Dean Elgar, Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Cock were in its way.

Dean Elgar (77) became the victim of Jasprit Bumrah which was a big wicket for India. Quinton de Cock was bowled by Mohammed Siraj. Then, match completely turned in India’s side. Mohammed Shami sent Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jansen back to pavilion. Ravichandran Ashwin took rest of the two wickets and India won by 113 runs.

Now, second test match will be played from January 3 to January 7, 2022 between India and South Africa. India in quest to win its maiden test series in South Africa. With the win of first test, India leads the series 1-0. India is one win away to clinch the series.
