A renowned telugu lyricist Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry dies due to lung cancer on tuesday. He was admitted in ICU in the KIMS hospital, Secunderabad. He was 66.

Sirivennela was awarded with Padma Shri in 2019 for his excellence work in art. Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian award of India. Many politicians and celebrities paid him tribute.

Prime minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Saddened by the passing away of the outstanding Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry. His poetic brilliance and versatility could be seen in several of his works. He made many efforts to popularise Telugu. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti.”

Sirivennela has penned lyrics for over 3000 songs. He had got the name of Sirivennela after writing the lyrics for K. Vishwanath’s directorial film ‘Sirivennela’ in 1986.

He got famous after the song ‘Vidhata Thalapuna’, which was in the movie ‘Sirivennela.’ He wrote lyrics for songs for many films such as Govinda Govinda, Criminal, Shubhalagnam, Srikaram, Sindhooram, Prem Katha, Chakram, Jagamantha Kutumbam, Gamyam, Mahatma, Kanche and many more.

He achieved 11 state Nandi awards and 4 Filmfare awards South for his work.
