Tokyo Paralympics:- Krishna Nagar wins gold medal for India, Suhas Yathiraj clinches silver

 The para badminton player of India Krishna Nagar wins fifth gold medal of India. In the gold medal match, Krishna defeats Chu Man Kai of Hong Kong 21-17, 16-21 and 21-17. 38 year old Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj also won silver medal in badminton in men’s singles SL4 event.

The 22 year old India’s para badminton player Krishna Nagar wins gold medal in men’s singles badminton SH6 event. It is the fifth gold medal for India. In the gold medal match, Krishna defeats Chu Man Kai of Hong Kong 21-17, 16-21 and 21-17.

In the first set, he beats Man Kai 21-17. In the second set, Hong Kong’s player did comeback in the match and won that set 16-21. In the third and final set, there were ups and downs in the points but finally Krishna won the set 21-17.

In the semi-final, Krishna Nagar had defeated Great Britain’s Krysten Coombs by 2-0. He won that game in the straight sets 21-10 and 21-11 in 26 minutes which led him to gold medal match.

World No.2 Krishna Nagar belongs to Rajasthan, India. In 2018, he had won bronze medal in Para Asian games in Indonesia. In 2019, Para Badminton World championships, Krishna won silver medal in the men’s doubles event alongwith compatriot Raja Magotra and also won bronze medal in the singles event.

Before Krishna Nagar’s gold, 38 year old Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj also won silver medal in badminton in men’s singles SL4 event. In the gold medal match, Yathiraj lost from two time World champion Lucas Mazur of France by 21-15, 17-21 and 15-21.

World No.2 Suhas Yathiraj won the first set by 21-15. After first set, Lucas Mazur did great comeback and amazingly won next two sets by 17-21 and 15-21. There was a tough competition between these two players. In the semi-final, Yathiraj had beaten Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan 21-9 and 21-15.

Suhas Yathiraj is an IAS officer of the 2007 batch of Uttar pradesh cadre in India and presently he is the DM of Gautam Buddha Nagar in Noida. He has an impairment in one of his ankles. He became national champion after winning gold medal in men’s singles category at 2nd National Para Badminton Championships in March, 2018.

Computer engineer Suhas Yathiraj is also the bronze medalist of 2018 Jakarta Asian para games. In 2016, he received highest civilian honor of Uttar Pradesh, the Yash Bharti. He has been honoured many times by UP government for excellent administration performance and for good performance in election related work.
