First Zika virus case found in Kerala, know symptoms and treatment of this virus

 Zika virus spreads from the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquitos which bites in a day. It is the same mosquito which spreads dengue, Chikangunya and yellow fever.

A 24 year old pregnant woman found Zika virus infected in Kerala. 19 samples has been taken from Thiruvananthapuram and out of these 13 samples are suspected as Zika virus. Health workers including doctors are come under these 13 samples. 

Kerala health minister Veena George said on thursday that cases are not confirmed yet. Confirmation will be done by National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.

The condition of pregnant woman is satisfactory so far. She is admitted in private hospital. There is no travel history of her outside the state. She lives near on the Tamil Nadu border. Earlier, her mother had also a symptoms of Zika virus positive.

Fever, joint pain, malaise or headache are the symptoms of Zika virus. There is the chance that virus can also infect the fetus of pregnant woman. It can cause infants to born with microcephaly or other congenital malformations.

What is Zika Virus

Zika virus spreads from the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquitos which bites in a day. It is the same mosquito which spreads dengue, Chikangunya and yellow fever. It can cause preterm birth and miscarriage. According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it can also transmit to the sex partner.

Symptoms of Zika virus

The symptoms of Zika virus are fever, body or joint pain, rashes, conjunctivitis, malaise or headache. The incubation period of Zika virus is from 3-14 days and the symptoms typically last for 2-7 days.

Treatment of Zika Virus

According to US CDC, there is no medicine or vaccine for Zika virus. Treat the symptoms. During this disease, rest is most important and body needs to keep hydrated by drinking fluids time to time. 
Take medicine such as acetaminophen (tylenol) for reducing fever and pain. If you are taking any other medical treatment then firstly ask from your doctor before taking any medicine for Zika virus.
