India defeated West Indies by 44 runs in the 2nd ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad and sealed the three-match ODI series. Prasidh Krishna picked 4 wickets by giving just 12 runs in 9 overs and became the player of the match.
India defeated West Indies by 44 runs in the 2nd ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. With this win, India clinch the three-match ODI series 2-0. India’s Suryakumar Yadav hit half-century in this match. Prasidh Krishna picked 4 wickets by giving just 12 runs in 9 overs and became the player of the match. Odean Smith of West Indies played well for the team. He took two wickets and also showed some cameo with the bat.
Kieron Pollard was not available to lead the West Indies in this match. Hence, vice captain Nicholas Pooran led the team in his absence. He won the toss and decided to bowl first. India’s opening pair surprised everyone as Rishabh Pant came for opening with Rohit Sharma. It was the first time in the ODI International cricket that keeper-batter Pant did opening for team India.
Ishan Kishan was not in the playing XI as KL Rahul replaced him. Rahul didn’t come for the opening as the team management sent him to the 4th place.
Kemar Roach dismissed India’s captain Rohit Sharma (5) early in the 3rd over. Rishabh Pant (18) and Virat Kohli (18) became the victim of Odean Smith. Then, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav made good partnership of 91 runs for the 4th wicket. Rahul (49) lost his wicket due to misunderstanding with Yadav while running in between the wickets. Akeal Hosein run out him. KL Rahul missed his half-century just by one run.
Suryakumar Yadav (64 off 83) hit half-century and helped India reaching at good score. Alzarri Joseph caught him on the bowl of Fabian Allen. After Suryakumar Yadav, no other player could score well. Washington Sundar made 24 runs, Deepak Hooda (29), Shardul Thakur (8), Mohammad Siraj (3) and Yuzvendra Chahal made 11* runs.
From West Indies side, Alzarri Joseph and Odean Smith took 2-2 wickets while Kemar Roach, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein and Fabian Allen picked 1-1 wicket. They restricted India to 237/9 in 50 overs.
None of the West Indies player could make a good partnership that would have taken them to victory. Prasidh Krishna dismissed Brandon king (18) and Yuzvendra Chahal got out Shai Hope (27). In the 10th over, Prasidh Krishna bowled a delivery to Darren Bravo and Rishabh Pant appealed for a caught behind. The on-field umpire adjudged the Bravo (1) not out. Then, skipper Rohit Sharma took DRS and decision turned into India’s side.
From West Indies side, Sharmarh Brooks (44 off 64) made highest score. Suryakumar Yadav took his catch on Deepak Hooda’s delivery. Captain Nicholas Pooran was trapped by Prasidh Krishna. Jason Holder (2) and Akeal Hosein (34) became the victim of Shardul Thakur.
Fabian Allen (13) was dismissed by Mohammad Siraj. Then, Odean Smith came on the crease who had done well with the bowl. After bowling, he also showed cameo with the bat. He hit two consecutive sixes to Shardul Thakur and scored 24 off 20 balls. Virat Kohli took his brilliant catch on the bowl of Washington Sundar. Prasidh Krishna finished the game by taking the last wicket of Kemar Roach.
Prasidh Krishna took 4 wickets, Shardul Thakur picked 2 wickets whereas Mohammad Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Hooda and Washington Sundar took 1-1 wicket.
With the help of Prasidh Krishna’s 4 wickets, India all out the West Indies (193) in 46 overs and won the the 2nd ODI match by 44 runs.
Now, the last and third ODI between India and West Indies will be played at the same venue on friday February 11.
