India’s spinners and skipper Rohit Sharma led India to win in the 1st ODI against West Indies. Yuzvendra Chahal 4/49 (9.5) became the player of the match and he also completed his 100 ODI wickets in this match.
India defeated West Indies in the 1st ODI on sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. It was India’s 1000th ODI and its players make it a memorable. India’s spinners and skipper Rohit Sharma shine in this match. Yuzvendra Chahal took 4 wickets and Washington Sundar took 3 wickets while Rohit Sharma hit half-century in this match. Chahal 4/49 (9.5) became the player of the match.
Earlier, India won the toss and decided to bowl. Mohammad Siraj gave a good start to India as he took an early wicket of Shai Hope. Washington Sundar sent Brandon King to pavilion in the 12th over. After that, West Indies innings faltered as India’s spinners took one wicket after the other.
India took three reviews and was successful in all these reviews. First review was against the Darren Bravo. Washington Sundar was bowling in the 12th over and the last bowl of the over touched Bravo’s leg. Team India appealed very loudly but umpire didn’t give out. Then, skipper Rohit Sharma took the review and third umpire gave decision in the India’s favour. Second time, Yuzvendra Chahal was bowling and Nicholas Pooran was on the crease. Ball touched the Pooran’s leg and this time again umpire denied to give out. Rohit Sharma took the review and team India again got successful in this review.
The third review was against the Sharmarh Brooks. This time, ball touched with the Brook’s bat and Rishabh Pant took the catch on the bowl of Chahal. This time again Umpire gave not out and Rohit Sharma again took the review. This review again went to the India’s side.
After Nicholas Pooran’s wicket, Chahal bowled the Indies captain Kieron Pollard on his first ball and sent him pavilion at duck. Chahal was on a hat-trick but the next player, Jason Holder, stopped his ball and didn’t let Chahal succeed in the hat-trick.
India’s Prasidh Krishna sent Akeal Hosein to pavilion at duck. Then, Jason Holder and Fabian Allen made 78 run partnership for the 8th wicket and helped Indies in crossing the 170 run mark. Prasidh Krishna became able to take Holder’s wicket.
Jason Holder made 57 runs off 71 balls with the help of four sixes. In this innings, he also completed his 2000 runs in the ODI International. West Indies got all out and made 176 runs in 43.5 overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal took 4 wickets in 9.5 overs while Washington Sundar picked 3 wickets in 9 overs. Prasidh Krishna took 2 wickets in his 10 overs and Mohammad Siraj took 1 wicket in 8 overs.
India’s captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan came on the crease as an openers. Rohit Sharma was not available in the India tour of South Africa due to his injury but after recovery in this innings, he hit a brilliant half-century. He made 60 runs off 51 balls and made a 84 runs partnership with Ishan Kishan (28) for the first wicket.
Alzarri Joseph trapped Rohit Sharma in the 14th over. It was a leg before and umpire gave him out. Rohit took review but this review went to West Indies side as the decision was umpire’s call.
Virat Kohli (8) hit two fours but when he again tried to hit, Kemar Roach took his catch on the bowl of Alzarri Joseph. Rishabh Pant (11) unfortunately got run out when Suryakumar Yadav hit the ball straight down the ground and after touching the foot of Alzarri, ball hit the non-striker end’s wicket. Pant was outside his crease. Joseph Alzarri bowled well from the West Indies side.
Suryakumar Yadav (34) and debutant Deepak Hooda (26) led India to win. Suryakumar hit four and finished the game. India finished 178/4 in 28 overs. With this win, India lead the three-match ODI series 1-0.
Now, the second ODI will be played on february 9 at the same venue.
