South Africa beat India by 31 runs in the 1st ODI at Boland park, Paarl. This was the first ODI of the three-match ODI series and Proteas leads the series 1-0 with this win. Captain of South Africa Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to bat first. This decision proves useful as team scored 296/4 and set a tough target for the visitors.
Captain Temba Bavuma and Rassie Van der Dussen both played a very good innings which helped South Africa in making such a big score. Temba Bavuma scored 110 off 143 balls with the help of eight 4s. Rassie Van der Dussen also hit unbeatable century in this innings. He made 129* off 96 balls with the help of nine 4s and four 6s and became the player of the match.
India’s bowlers, on the other hand, proved expensive. Only Jasprit Bumrah could show his skills by taking a big wicket of Temba Bavuma and the Janneman Malan. Bumrah took two wickets by giving 48 runs in the 10 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin also took a wicket of Quinton de Cock.
Kl Rahul is the captain of this ODI series of India as Rohit Sharma is not available due to injury. Captain KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan did an opening for India. Shikhar Dhawan hit half-century in this match. He scored 79 off 84 balls with the help of ten 4s. An ex-captain Virat Kohli also hit half-century and both Dhawan and Kohli made a good partnership for the 2nd wicket. Kohli scored 51 off 63 balls with the help of three boundaries.
Dhawan and Kohli’s innings helped India in reaching a respectable score. From India’s side, Shardul Thakur is coming a fore as a brilliant batter. He couldn’t do well with the bowl but he showed his skills with the bat. During the bowling, he gave 72 runs in the 10 overs but he balanced this during the batting. He hit his first half-century (50* runs off 43 balls) in the ODI match. Thakur hit five 4s and a six.
South Africa’s Andile Phehlukwayo took 2 wickets in 5 overs and gave 26 runs. Lungi Ngidi and Tabraiz Shamsi also took 2-2 wickets in 10 overs. Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj took 1-1 wicket. The overall performance of South Africa’s bowlers was very good.
India finished its innings at 265/8 in 50 overs and South Africa won this match by 31 runs. After this win, South Africa leads the three-match test series 1-0. This defeat is hard to digest for India as it has already lost the three-match test series 2-1 and Virat Kohli stepped down as India’s test captain after this series.
The second ODI match between India and South Africa will be played on January 21, 2022 in this stadium. Now, it has to be seen whether India makes a comeback in the second ODI or even loses the ODI series.
