A well known Industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata turns 84 on December 28, 2021. He is the former chairman of Tata sons. Under his chairmanship, Tata Group spreads worldwide.
The scion of Tata family Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937 in Surat, Gujarat. He is the son of Naval Tata. At the age of 10, Ratan Tata’s father and mother separated and his grandmother Navajbai Tata brought him up.
He completed his schooling in Mumbai, followed by Cathedral and Shimla. He graduated from Riverdale Country School, New York City in 1955. He went Cornell University College to study Architecture.
He attended the advanced management program in Harvard Business School and completed it in 1975. He joined Tata Group in 1961 and initially worked their on the shop floor of Tata steel.
In 1991, JRD Tata stepped down as chairman of Tata sons and named Ratan Tata as his successor. After taking chairmanship, Ratan Tata got Tata tea to acquire Tetley and Tata motors to acquire Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Steel to acquire Corus. It helped in expanding the business of Tata Group worldwide.
In 2012, he retired from the chairmanship of Tata. Besides businessman, he is also a philanthropist. In 2010, Tata Group donated $50 million for the construction of an executive center at Harvard Business School and one hall was named Tata hall. During the Covid-19 period, he donated Rs. 500 crore to PM Cares fund. Like this, he keeps doing these kind of works for the welfare of people.
Despite being a big businessman, Ratan Tata is unmarried. About four times, he was at the edge to marriage but all times it got cancelled and he never get married.
Ratan Tata is the recipient of two civilian honours of India. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2000 and Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
