William Hurt, Oscar winning actor, dies at 71

William Hurt dies on sunday, March 13 at the age of 71 in Portland, Oregon. Earlier in May 2018, William Hurt was diagnosed with prostate cancer but according to his son’s statement he did not die due to the disease.

American actor William Hurt, known for popular films such as “Kiss of the Spider Woman”, “Children of a Lesser God” and “Broadcast News”, dies on sunday, March 13 at the age of 71. His son Will said in a statement that he died of natural causes.

“It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father, and Oscar-winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time,” Will said in a statement.

Earlier in May 2018, William Hurt was diagnosed with prostate cancer but according to his son’s statement he did not die due to the disease.

During his long career, William nominated four times for Academy award. In 1985, he won Oscar award for his role of gay prisoner in “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” He again nominated for Oscar for the films “Children of a Lesser God” (1986), “Broadcast News” (1987) and “A History of Violence” (2005).

He got famous among the younger generation of movie lovers when he portrayed the role of General Thaddeus Ross in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “The Incredible Hulk” (2008).

He reprised the role in “Captain America: Civil War”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: Endgame” and “Black Widow”.

William Hurt made his film debut in 1980 as a troubled scientist in the science fiction thriller “Altered States”. In 1981, he appeared in “Body Heat” opposite Kathleen Turner.

William Hurt was born on March 20, 1950 in Washington DC, US. His parents get divorced and his mother married Henry Luce III.

William studied theology at Tufts University before enrolling at the Juilliard Arts School in New York.

He married to actress Mary Beth Supinger. While he was still married, he went in relationship with ballet dancer Sandra Jennings. She became pregnant and it led to William’s divorce from Mary Beth.

William Hurt is survived by four children. One son from Sandra Jennings, two other sons from Heidi Henderson and a daughter, Jeanne, from french actress Sandrine Bonnaire.
