Rashida Jones, the president of MSNBC, has announced her resignation after four years in the role. She will be temporarily succeeded by Rebecca Kutler, a former CNN executive who joined MSNBC in 2022.

Jones’s departure coincides with significant changes at MSNBC’s parent company, Comcast, which recently announced plans to reorganize its cable holdings into a new entity called SpinCo.
During her tenure, Jones led MSNBC to record viewership and was instrumental in making investments in nonlinear businesses. She was the first Black woman to run a major TV news network.

Rebecca Kutler, who will serve as interim president, has been with MSNBC since 2022 and previously spent 20 years at CNN. She has been influential in launching key programs and expanding the network’s digital and audio strategies.

MSNBC now faces the challenge of navigating a highly polarized political climate and addressing declining viewership. Notably, Rachel Maddow is set to return to a five-night-a-week schedule temporarily to cover the initial period of the new administration.
