Born Hilary Mary Allcroft on December 14, 1943, in Worthing, West Sussex, Allcroft started her career in British radio and television. During the 1970s, she acquired the rights to adapt Reverend Wilbert Awdry’s “Railway Series” books. This led to the launch of “Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends” in 1984, which followed the adventures of Thomas, a blue steam engine, and his companions on the fictional Island of Sodor.
The show became a cultural phenomenon, captivating children worldwide for nearly four decades. It aired 584 episodes over 24 seasons, solidifying its place as a cherished part of childhood for many.
