The original Tamil Ghajini, starring Suriya and Asin, was a major hit when it was released in 2005, followed by the Hindi version starring Aamir in 2008, which was also a box office sensation.
Actors Aamir Khan and Suriya are reportedly in discussions to revive their successful film Ghajini as part of a larger franchise. Recent reports indicate that both stars are enthusiastic about the idea of Ghajini 2 and have expressed interest in working together on the project.
The plan is to simultaneously shoot both the Hindi and Tamil versions of the film, aiming for a coordinated release to maximize audience impact.
Rather than opting for a traditional remake, the actors are focused on creating a fresh narrative for Ghajini 2, avoiding the “remake” label that has become less appealing in the current Pan-Indian cinema landscape.
According to reports, producer Allu Aravind presented the concept for the sequel, and Suriya, while promoting his latest film Kanguva, confirmed that discussions are underway.
Suriya mentioned in an interview, “It was surprising to be asked about Ghajini 2 now, as Allu Aravind recently shared the idea for a sequel. I responded positively, saying we could definitely explore it. Conversations have started, and things are progressing, so Ghajini 2 might happen.”
A source close to the production also revealed that Aamir Khan has been working with Aravind for some time, developing a unique script for the sequel. Both Aamir and Suriya are keen to avoid releasing the two films separately, as they want to preserve the novelty and excitement surrounding the project. Producers Aravind and Madhu Mantena proposed the solution of filming both versions at the same time, with the goal of releasing them simultaneously on a Pan-Indian scale.

Now, after 16 years, the idea of continuing the Ghajini story with both stars has generated significant excitement, but the creators are determined to approach it as an authentic sequel rather than just capitalizing on the franchise’s previous success.
If all goes as planned, Ghajini 2 could be well into production by mid-2025, pending final script approval. Both actors have already expressed their preliminary support for the project.
