Richard Sherman, the former NFL Thursday Night Football analyst and renowned ex-Seattle Seahawks cornerback, found himself in legal trouble once again in the early hours of a Saturday when he was arrested in King County, Washington, on suspicion of driving under the influence. The 35-year-old Super Bowl veteran was taken into custody and booked into the King County Correctional Facility at 4:51 a.m. The available records indicate an allegation related to driving under the influence. Interestingly, there was no mention of bond or bail, leaving Sherman seemingly in detention as of Saturday night.
Washington state law defines DUI as operating a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating substances such as liquor, cannabis, or any drug. This includes criteria like a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher or exceeding 5 nanograms of active THC per milliliter of blood.
However, the exact nature of the allegations against Sherman—whether they pertain to alcohol, marijuana, or another intoxicant—remains unclear. Attempts to obtain comments from Sherman’s past legal representation and a business associated with him on Instagram were unsuccessful.
This recent incident echoes a previous DUI arrest in the summer of 2021, where Sherman allegedly crashed his SUV in a construction zone and attempted to break into his in-laws’ suburban Seattle home. In that case, charges included criminal trespass, DUI, and resisting arrest. Sherman reached an agreement with the King County Superior Court in March 2022, pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts—first-degree negligent driving and second-degree criminal trespass.

The agreement involved court supervision until part of 2024, along with a suspended 90-day jail sentence, two days of which were credited for time already served, contingent on Sherman maintaining a trouble-free record.
In 2022, Sherman made a career shift, announcing a hiatus from football to focus on TV appearances. He joined Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” as a pregame, halftime, and postgame analyst. Despite stepping away from the playing field, Sherman, who played a pivotal role in the Seahawks’ 2014 Super Bowl victory, expressed a willingness to consider a return to football during a 2022 interview with the NFL Network.
Richard Sherman‘s journey from growing up in South Los Angeles to attending Dominguez High School in Compton and graduating from Stanford University, where he studied communication, adds layers to the narrative of his tumultuous recent years.
